Meet Our Students

Here is a sampling of students who are active in our program. These are real people:

Mohammed is from Bangladesh. He has been in the U.S. for six years. His goal is to enter trade school to learn mechanics and to possibly become an electrician someday. He is highly motivated to improve his English skills and attends English classes every week. He enjoys discussing the similarities and differences in cultures and religions and beams with enthusiasm when asked to share his own personal stories.

Victorico is from Mexico. He is a hard worker and is very dedicated to his studies, as he rarely misses English class. He came to the U.S. three years ago in hopes of a better life and is striving to improve his verbal skills in order to survive in his work environment and community. He has recently graduated to a higher level conversation group.

Lily is from China and with the help of her tutor she was able to gain confidence in communicating to doctors during her last pregnancy. The tutor and student bond continues with visits to the new baby. Lily likes to feed her tutor well, as she works at a local Chinese Restaurant.

George passed his citizenship exam in December 2009

Nina was able to pass her learner’s permit exam in August, and by November she had her driver’s license.

Doris was able to fill out an employment application and get a job at K-mart while a student at our Wed Morning Basic Readers group.
