Literacy Connections Dutchess | Annual Community Spelling Bee | Sponsorships

.........Serving Dutchess, Columbia & Greene Counties

The Community Spelling BEE is a signature event held each year in March in Dutchess County. It is supported by more than 50 businesses & organizations, and it is designed to bring people together to have fun for a good reason. The BEE directly supports literacy services for adults & children in our community. All spellers and sponsors are invited to join us for breakfast.

Teams of 2 come together & spell. We use Official Spelling Bee Words & Rules, but we have fun while doing it. No teams are eliminated in the regular rounds; scores are kept. The teams with the highest scores go to the final round. We have prizes and special awards. The event will run from 8:45 AM until Noon, and will include a welcoming coffee/tea and continental breakfast.

Spellers come from the community. Sponsors can send their own teams or we will find a team to represent the sponsor. Teams are comprised of high school & college students, and adults. Throughout the event every time a team spells, the Sponsor name is announced, and is shown on a custom-made sign that the Team holds up as they spell.

Each year, Literacy Connections organizes a “Bee Happy Raffle” in conjunction with our annual Spelling Bee. The Bee Happy Raffle gets better each year! It’s fun and it supports our reading programs. This year more than ever, the Raffle counts! We are just thrilled with the wonderful prizes the local businesses in our community donate for the raffle each year. And more importantly, the funds go directly to purchase workbooks for our students.
